Eyelid Lift
As we age, our skin droops and fatty deposits form, making us look older. Problems such as droopy skin and fatty deposits can be treated with an eyelid lift. Aging is not the only reason a person may choose to have an eyelid lift. Some people in their 20’s and 30’s may choose to undergo the procedure because their upper or lower eyelids droop or look puffy due to genetics.
What Is An Eyelid Lift?
An eyelid lift is a cosmetic surgery procedure that tightens your upper and lower eyelids. Fatty deposits and extra skin are sometimes removed during the procedure to eliminate a puffy or droopy look around the eyes. Some patients do not require the procedure on both upper and lower eyelids.
During the Procedure
In order to tighten skin and muscles and remove any excess tissue, the cosmetic surgeon makes small incisions along the natural folds of the upper eyelid. Another Option
Occasionally, cosmetic surgeons will make internal incisions for eyelid lifts. This is more commonly used with younger patients and does not allow the doctor to remove extra skin. During an eyelid lift that involves an internal incision, laser treatment is used to remove excess skin.
After An Eyelid Lift
Once the procedure is complete patients usually experience minor swelling for at least a week. Sometimes swelling can last a few weeks. It is common for eyes to be teary or overly dry for a short period after an eyelid lift, but cosmetic surgeons can recommend eye drops and other treatments to ease discomfort during the recovery period. Any bruising that occurs after the procedure can be hidden with makeup and will usually disappear in one to one and a half weeks.
Once your eyes and the surrounding tissues recover from the surgery, the sagginess and puffiness around your eyes will be gone.
